Day 56
Today. Is. The. Day. We took public transport to town. Public transport can be anything from hitching a ride in the back of a truck, to riding in a bus or taxi of some sort.
We were able to catch a ride in the back of this man's truck (after waiting half an hour). It was me, Heidi, Sibongile, Sigwili, Sam, Nhlanhla, and Vusi. Please allow me to quickly describe these guys who are completely different people, but so much fun. Well there is Heidi and I, we're boring ;-) Then there is Sibongile and I'm not sure who to compare her to other than Mayaba. She is loud at times when she is preaching, but has such a compassionate heart for God and for people. Sigwili is quite conservative, reserved and...well...I guess you could describe him as sophisticated. He likes to argue about theological things. Then there is Vusi who is just loud and crazy. This guy is hilarious. For example, when we had chapel today and they were singing some plain worship song he was leading, he started to really get into it and even started to kick his feet, doing the tribal dance. Weirdo. Okay, then there is Sam who is like this silly, sometimes loud guy who, if you just watched him walking or something you'd think he is from America (But he's from South Africa). He's trendy and likes to kid with people. Nhlanhla is quiet and reserved, but when you get to talking with him he has a hilarious sense of humor and is just an all-around humble person.
So Imagine us all in the back of this truck with our hairs flying wild...okay, only Heidi and I had hair flying in the wind. I yelled to Vusi, while we were in the truck, "You're hair is all messed up." He did a small laugh and acted like he didn't know what I meant. So when we got to our destination and got out of the truck, I went up to him again and said, "You're hair is all messed up now from the wind." He started to pat his head like his hair was really messed up or something. The joke is that he is pretty much bald now because he just got a short haircut...but yet he was still worried thinking that his hair was really messed up! I was like, "I was joking, it was a joke. You're hair isn't really messed up. It's too short to get messed up." He got the joke and we moved on with our lives.
At KFC Heidi was meeting a friend from Canada who is doing a mission trip for a month or so here in Swailand with Orphans. So after we ate and Heidi got to visit with her friend, we walked her to the church where she needed to go, and we headed off to the bus station.
The bus station is chaos on Fridays. I mean CHAOS! Like craziness like you would not believe. People everywhere, lines where you don't know where they lead, Kombi's (mini-van taxis) all over, almost running over people and confusion on my part. To say the least, Heidi and I would have been so lost if we hadn't come with a Swazi. I mean, if it is something that you do your whole life then it isn't a big deal and you get used to what happens and where you go and where you get off and so on. But if you haven't done any public transportation, like hardly at all, ever, in your life, then you struggle with trying to figure this stuff out. So we were able to find a short like to Babe Langa's Kombis which are seen by E&D as the safest because they are owned by the Langas who are Christian people. So anyway, Into town it is 2 rands. Back out of town it is 2 rands. So it's 4 rands to make the trip, right, that's less than a dollar in American money. Good times. So much cheaper to do it this way than to take the car from campus and go. The only thing is that the public transport method definately takes more time, by far.
Tonight was Favored's birthday. Several students were there, kids around the campus, Trevor, Favored's Gogo (Grandmother), and one of Thomas's "sisters" from Rwanda. It was so fun to spend this special time with them. Favored was all there though because she's been battling the flu. We cut the cake, passed cookies and other munchies. Many many pictures were taken too.

-South African Airlines is no longer on strike and the team that was hoping to be here today is here!
